This arch is a fine example of Arab architecture, noting the central waterway sidewalk. The name of this street is due to the existence of an Arab mosque, later transformed into a Christian Church that collapsed during the earthquake of 1755.
Built, probably, in the 16th century, in an area where the cliff measures 41 meters high. The collapse of the cliff uncovered an underground compartment that used to store ammunition and which can still be seen today next to the wall of Rua da Battery.
The Church of São Sebastião was built in the early 18th century, of popular design. The exterior include a Manueline lateral doorway and the baroque main doorway. The interior includes a polychrome carved woodwork altarpiece on the main altar featuring 17th and 18th-century statues, and a statue of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, possibly dating from the 16th century.
The hermitage dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Orada was originally built in the 15th century, but the existing church dates from the 18th century. Key features of the interior include the 18th century wooden altarpiece of the main chapel and the ex-voto offerings provided by local fishermen. The 15th century statue of the patron saint is kept in the Parish Church of Albufeira. Every year, on August 15, the local fishermen pay homage to Our Lady in a procession that returns the statue to its church of origin.
It is one of the Castle's three doors, thus designated as giving access to the chapel of the same name, which also disappeared with the earthquake of 1755. From the end of the 18th century onwards, the cult of Sant'Ana began to take place in the current chapel.
The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Albufeira presents a museographic discourse related to the development of the historical process in the municipality of Albufeira and neighboring municipalities, from Prehistory to the 16th and 17th centuries.
